Studio

I started Camp Irion searching for a sound and a feeling — the feeling I used to have when recording felt like freedom. I built this place to get that back. This is a real workspace, meant for people who want to get off the grid and submerge themselves in a project.

The gem of Camp Irion is a storied 24-track Studer tape machine inherited from Jackson Browne's Groove Masters studio in Santa Monica. The Studer gives recordings a warm analog feel and a diversity of sound that artists across genres appreciate. We've recorded a range of artists — from old-school folkies like Arlo Guthrie to pop sensation Sir Chloe, Swedish rocker Jesper Lindell, members of Dawes and Wilco, and more.

The studio features a curated collection of vintage guitars and amplifiers, Neve preamps, an array of microphones, Steinway and Baldwin upright pianos, and a Hammond organ with Leslie.

Located in the quiet Berkshire Hills, the studio sits atop 100 woodland acres with a two-bedroom timber frame house. Hike, swim, pick wild blueberries, take the outdoor shower or the sauna. Dinner at the Dreamaway Lodge or the Neon Newt is minutes away, and Jacob's Pillow, MASS MoCA, and Tanglewood are all close by.
